Transformers Generations; Power of the Primes Deluxe Class Cutthroat: How does he cut throats? He hasn't got a knife

Yes, these are the kinds of questions that keep me up at night.

While I know I promised a land shark of a repainted velociraptor, the shark hasn't come in yet and there's not much to say about Cindersaur other then the new head and the bio card confusion. So, I thought I'd talk about another repaint that is a bit more exciting to talk about. Cutthroat, a decent retool of Wave 1's Swoop.

The difference between a repaint and a retool when it comes to Transformers is that a repaint often has the same parts (or at least most of them), just in different colours. A retool though has plenty of new parts, but uses the same engineering. In regards to the differences betwee Cuthroat and Swoop. New beast head, new robot head, new wings, knew shins that have a brand new tail and beast legs on them. This does help give Cuthroat a significantly difference presence then Swoop, though there were some things lost in the transition. There seems to be fewer ratchet points in the wings now, coming off more as a weak locking point that's easy to move past. I do wish there were multiple clicks in the wings like there are in Swoop's wings. There might be and mine's just a bad copy, but I can't say for certain. The new legs are strong at the moment, though due to them being friction hinges, I don't know how long that will last, especially as he's very front heavy. Though at least he has knees. It's more then I can say about Blot's beast mode. One thing in Cutthroat's favor though is the beast head. While it can't sit straight, it does sit better on his robot head then Swoop's does, and the mouth is currently staying in place, something that my Swoop's isn't.

As usual, skipping arm and leg modes, onto robot mode. While the similarities to Swoop are even more blatant here, there's still enough of a difference to warrant getting both. It is about as poseable as Swoop is, though now with a shorter beast head there's nothing locking the waist swivel now, which is a good thing. What's weird on mine is that the hips are actually quite tight. Not so tight that I don't want to risk moving them most of the time, but tight enough to limit what can be done with them. I can't actually move the left hip that much other then the three main directions, which is annoying because it is on a very slight angle. I struggle to even pop the ball joint off to find out what's going on due to it being so tight. The deco on the figure is solid, and actually kinda muted compared to other figures based on toys around that line. The dark purple and dark green subdue the light yellow quite nicely. I'm not a fan of the head sculpt though, it's quite generic and doesn't really scream "Evil demon bird decepticon".

Overall, definently a step up from Blot, and has the presence to make himself known, but there are some cracks behind the semes on Cutthroat. At least though there's enough here to justify a second dip into this mould other then getting Abominus' leg. Next week though, a break from Terrorcons to review something truely scary. Something that terrifies many hardcore Transformers fans, and the start of a mini trilogy that will make more sense next month. To be honest, this toy scares me to the point where I won't be reviewing one core function of it as it is intended to be use, as there are stories of it being a fire hazzard when brand new, and I'm guessing over 10 years of life hasn't helped. Care to guess who?
